2017.01.31 Cyber CYA

Description:

The Challenge:

The issue of cyber security has become a central focus of companies, big and small, across all industries. With small businesses, which tend to be the majority of the members and investors for chambers of commerce and economic development organizations, cyber security attacks continue to increase.

As more individuals and organizations become increasingly dependent on our networked and interconnected infrastructure for conducting business, cybercrime and cyber criminals have become much more sophisticated in their techniques for stealing identities and using them to extract funds and make fraudulent purchases.  Companies and individuals are being extorted for money by their data being encrypted and held hostage for ransom.  These and other techniques are placing individuals and companies at risk and they need to learn how to reduce that risk and protect themselves.

What You Will Learn:

This presentation will provide participants with an overview of the issues and raise awareness of the seriousness and escalating danger we face as:

  • Individuals
  • Organizations
  • Communities

Specifically, participants will learn:

  • Very practical do's and don'ts that they can apply to their personal and organization's security
  • Ways in which economic development and chambers of commerce organizations can inform and support their member/investors' cyber security strategies.
  • An important area of cyber security, known as Social Engineering. This is a cyber approach that relies heavily on human interaction and often involves tricking people into breaking normal security procedures. Counter-measures implemented to protect against these attacks will be shared.
