CDOT's On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program

Wed 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

CDOT is rolling out a new On-the-Job Training (OJT) Special Provision for all federally-funded highway construction projects. This workshop is for CDOT prime contractors who are required to have an OJT Program Plan and meet goals, as well as subcontractors who want to learn how to take advantage of OJT and develop employees into journey workers in construction trades.

Since the early 1970s, FHWA has required state DOTs to establish apprenticeship and training programs targeting under-represented segments of the U.S. workforce, including minorities, women, and disadvantaged individuals, to fill journey-level positions and to ensure an available competent workforce to meet highway construction hiring needs. CDOT sets OJT goals on construction projects and requires prime contractors to have an OJT Plan with training opportunities to help increase the construction labor pool to accommodate the shortage.

Whether you are a seasoned practitioner of OJT or new to CDOT contracting, this workshop will help you understand CDOT's OJT program and new requirements. It will cover:

  • Overview of CDOT's OJT Program and New Special Provision
  • Out-of-the Box and Approved OJT Programs
  • OJT Goals and Good Faith Efforts
  • Eligibility, Enrollment and Counting Hours
  • Wages and Reimbursement
  • OJT Forms and Submittals
  • OJT Support Services: RISE (Resources to Improve and Support Employment)

Speaker: Monica Vialpando, CDOT's Civil Rights Compliance Specialist is the author of CDOT's new OJT Special Provision and has worked on developing the OJT program to meet the needs of prime contractors, subcontractors, and trainees. She is an expert authority on how to make the most of your OJT program and what is required to be in compliance.
