Why’s and How’s of Government Contracting

The federal government spent $445.2 Billion in FY 2014. Are you missing out on opportunities? Gary Henry, Executive Director of the Colorado PTAC, will provide an overview of government contracting, including Federal, State and local opportunities as well as opportunities with larger prime contractors. In collaboration with the SBDC, PTAC offers free consulting and other resources including registration support with DUNS, SAM, CAGE, and NAICS and the ability to sign up for alerts from PTAC's database for potential opportunities. From this workshop, you will learn about no cost services available to Colorado companies desiring to pursue and win contracts in the government sector and leave with an understanding of how government contracting is an available tool to supplement commercial work. Additionally, you will learn ways you can overcome the perceived obstacles associated with contracting.

Presenter Bio: Gary Henry is the Executive Director of the Colorado Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). In this role Gary is responsible for developing the strategy and direction for this Department of Defense, Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and privately funded nonprofit corporation. Together with the Board of Directors, executes a program of business services across the acquisition process that assists any Colorado business in their pursuit and administration of government contract opportunities. Gary leads a team of counselors across Colorado whose mission is to support the efficiency, effectiveness, and success of Colorado business helping to increase the growth of state and local economies. Gary brings over 25 years of expertise in contract management, program management, systems acquisition, operations, government organizational change, and leadership. As a retired Air Force senior acquisition officer, mission support officer, contracting officer and large government contractor executive, As the Director of Policy and Programs for Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), Gary was the senior officer providing acquisition, contracting and business advice to Headquarters AFSPC and seven wing level units and tenant commands. He supported program execution in excess of $1.5B annually for AFSPC and Northern Command requirements. As the Commander of the 50th Contracting Squadron he was responsible for the execution of over $220M in contract actions per contracting activities, providing operational and major weapon systems contracting execution and administration for the 50th Space Wing, Space Innovation and Development Center, and other 50th SW tenant units. Gary’s experience includes the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, U.S. State Department, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, NATO, and other foreign military governments.
