This workshop series is designed to apply and further develop your estimating skills. The 6-part series will help you create an accurate and competitive estimating process. The intent is to provide information that can be applied to increase the number of estimates you put out, as well as the quality, accuracy and competitiveness of your estimates. Throughout the course, you will be able to utilize what you lean by creating an estimate for a mock project.

Jan 18: Pre-Estimate Planning

  • Solicitation and Invitation to Bid
  • RFI's and RFP's
  • Locating information in construction documents
  • Your estimating notebook

Jan 25: Quantity Take-off Part 1

  • Project breakout (work breakdown structure)
  • Your project and estimate schedules
  • Quantity take-off for gereral and material items

Feb 1: Quantity Take-off Part 2

  • Labor and equipment take-offs
  • Combining your take-off

Feb 8: Pricing Your Take-off

  • Pricing materials, labor, and equipment

Feb 15: Preparing Your Proposal for Presentation - Part 1

  • Figuring costs and profits
  • Reviewing your bid documents
  • Pricing breakdown

Feb 22: Preparing Your Proposal for Presentation - Part 2

  • Formatting your proposal
  • Checklist for completing required documents
  • Final bid package and submission
  • Follow up and debrief

Bonus: All class participants will receive an online workbook and access to estimating spreadsheet tools valued at $100 plus exclusive website access to class materials and handouts.

Cost: This course is normally $850 but is being offered by CDOT's Connect2DOT program for just $150!

Rex Davis

Rex Davis is a seasoned estimator and Connect2DOT consultant. He has worked in the construction industry for decades as part of the labor and management forces, working up through an apprenticeship program to becoming a project manager before starting his own business specializing in estimating. He’s an expert in the field and offers estimating workshops all across the country to help small and large businesses improve and maximize their bidding processes.
