Tax Considerations for Small Businesses

This session covers tax basics for businesses that are LLC, S-Corp or Sole Proprietorship – or plan to be (not appropriate for C-Corps). Topics include: filing requirements handling depreciation health insurance and more! Location: Boulder SBDC main office- 1001 Arapahoe Ave. (inside the North Building of the Boulder Public Library in the Canyon Room)

Speaker Bios: William (Bill) Jones joined ACM in January, 2012 with the merger of his Boulder firm. He has 20 years of professional accounting experience and specializes in providing comprehensive audit and tax services to nonprofit organizations. He has stayed close to his Boulder roots—all of his public accounting experience and the practice he has built is centered in the Boulder-Denver area. He has six years of private-industry accounting experience, including two years with one of the nation's largest real estate developers. Bill's areas of expertise include business and management consulting, financial reporting including audit services, and individual and business income taxes. Bill has overseen engagements from small, privately owned companies to companies with over $ 1 billion in revenue. Mark E. Lumsden is a Senior Tax Manager at Anton Collins Mitchell LLP (“ACM”), a full-service accounting and consulting firm of 18 partners/directors and 100+ employees. He works with clients in a variety of industries but but primarily focuses in the middle market on closely held, private companies. Mark's specialties include: S-corporations, C-corporations, Partnerships, Start-ups, Tax planning, Succession planning, Tax minimization consulting. Industries include: Technology, Construction, Real estate, Professional firms, Manufacturing. Mark joined ACM’s team about two years ago, and has been in public accounting for almost ten years. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with degrees in accounting and economics. Mark is a CPA and CCIFP and is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association, the Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants.
