Cyber Awareness & Implementation Series (8-Week Course)

Description:

The Cyber Awareness & Implementation Series is an annual 8-week (not including the week of Thanksgiving) course that provides small businesses with cybersecurity education, consulting, guidance, and solutions to fill the gaps and risks found in each participant's business. At the end of 8 weeks, participants will have a Business Risk Assessment Report, a Cyber Implementation Plan, and eligibility to earn the new BBB "Cyber-Aware Business" Badge!


Curriculum:

    • First 2 Weeks: SBDC Cyber Subject Matter Experts visit each businesses location, whether it's in the home, online, or a storefront, conducting a full business risk assessment (normally very expensive!)
    • Session 1: Introduction to the Cyber Awareness Completion Course
    • Session 2:Privacy and Data Security, Scams & Fraud
    • Session 3: Network and Website Security
    • Session 4: Email, Social media, Mobile Devices
    • Session 5: Employees, Facility Security, Operational Security
    • Session 6: Payment Cards/PCI Compliance
    • Session 7: Incident Response and Reporting, Policy Development, Management, Phase 2: Implementation of Infrastructure
    • Session 8: Cyber Business Plan Presentations

    Requirements:

    • Business risk assessment is completed in the first 2 weeks
    • Business misses only 1 session (attends a minimum of 7)
    • Completes and submits their Cybersecurity Implementation Plan

     

    BBB "Cyber-Aware Business" Badge Requirements:


    • At the completion of the course, the BBB is piloting a "Cyber-Aware Business" Badge. The badge can only be earned IF:

      • The business completes the 8-week course
      • The business submits a final Business Risk Assessment Report and a Cyber Implementation Plan
      • The business hires an IT/Cyber Management Solution
      • The business must provide proof they have cyber insurance
      • The IT/Cyber company must check in with the client mid-year and at the end of the year to ensure the SBDC, BBB, and the small business they are still within compliance

    • Once all the above are finalized, the SBDC recommends the business for the badge, and the badge is awarded by the BBB of Southern Colorado, and can be displayed on websites, email, social media and storefronts. (The BBB can provide more of these specifics!)
